Multiple small earthquakes struck Monday morning, centered near San Ramon, according to the United States Geological Survey .

The first temblor, a 2.9 magnitude, was reported at 2:33 a.m. and centered about 2.5 miles southeast of San Ramon, the USGS said.

Two more quakes followed nearly 3 hours later and were centered in the same general area -- a 3.0 magnitude at 5:21 a.m. then a 2.7 magnitude at 5:37 a.m., the USGS said.

Further information was not immediately available.
