It's safe to say that by the tail end of the 1980s, the Western genre that was once so popular in the 60s and 70s had lost a lot of its luster. While the decade did give us a few good showings by way of classics like Young Guns and Pale Rider, the bulk of films released failed to connect on any meaningful level, leading many to question if the genre was dead in the water. For the most part, it was, until a 1989 TV miniseries came along to breathe new life into it, proving that Westerns still had what it took to command an audience.
