The TTC plans to make it easier for frequent riders to get a break on their fares, as the agency moves to a new fare model next fall.
Mayor Olivia Chow announced at Victoria Park station on Monday that starting September 2026, the TTC will institute a “fare capping” system that means customers who take 47 rides in a month won’t have to pay again for the rest of that month.
In a press release, the mayor said the change would help make transit “more affordable.”
“No more deciding whether you can afford a monthly pass upfront. No more overpaying if you don’t ride enough to make a pass worth it,” she said.
The TTC’s current monthly pass costs $156, an amount equal to 47 Presto adult fares. That means that savings for many frequent users under the new system will be minimal.
