The Missouri Southern State University men’s basketball team could not overcome a combined 59-point performance from the University of Central Oklahoma’s Matthew Willenborg and Josh Nwankwo as the Lions fell 87-79 to the Bronchos Saturday at Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium.

Willenborg tallied 33 and Nwankwo had 26 points.

Gavyn Elkamil added 15 points and four steals and Jaden Taylor also finished with 15 points for Southern.

The Lions fell to 6-3 overall, 1-1 in the MIAA; UCO improved to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.

MSSU held an early 4-0 lead off back-to-back scores from Tyrone Wright Jr. and extended its lead to seven off an Isaiah Atwater three-pointer at the 13:36 mark of the first half that made it 16-9 game.
