CANTON, Ohio — Kirtland’s powerful run game does not move without the play of its linemen up front.
The Hornets’ three leading rushers acknowledged that as they took in their 41-6 victory Saturday vs. Hopewell-Loudon for the OHSAA Division VI football state championship.
John Silvestro rushed for a single-season, school-record 2,345 yards. He put up 255 yards and four touchdowns to lead Kirtland (15-0) past the Chieftains (13-2). By the time the Hornets hoisted the trophy, they had three 1,000-yard rushers: Quarterback Jake LaVerde finished with 1,042 yards and 14 TDs, while Ty Bledsoe put up 1,397 yards and 16 TDs. All three will graduate before next season, when Kirtland builds off its eighth state championship.
However, five of seven offensive linemen are expected back.
