EastEnders viewers have been left fearing for the future of one BBC soap legend

A regular on EastEnders has delivered some devastating news.

In Monday's episode (December 8) of the BBC soap, Sam (Kim Medcalf) made a beeline for her older brother, Phil Mitchell's (Steve McFadden) house. However, instead of a friendly catch-up over coffee, she swiped the cash from his safe.

Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), suffering from worsening dementia symptoms, mistakenly let Sam take all the money, believing she was his daughter Claire.
