Tom Hicks, the former owner of MLB’s Texas Rangers, NHL’s Dallas Stars and English soccer club Liverpool, has died. He was 79.
Hicks died peacefully on Saturday in Dallas surrounded by his family, his spokesperson Lisa LeMaster said, the AP reports.
Hicks owned the Stars from 1995-2011, winning the Stanley Cup in 1999, and Rangers from 1998-2010, winning three American League West division titles and making a World Series appearance in 2010. He purchased the Stars for $84 million and the Rangers for $250 million, selling each team for $240 million and $593 million, respectively, according to Forbes .
He acquired a 50% stake in Liverpool for about $340 million in 2007 before the club was sold to New England Sports Ventures, later Fenway Sports Group, for about $380 million in 2010.
