The Maryland Health and Government Operations Committee recently met to provide updates on Medicaid recipients in the state, highlighting changes that could affect coverage for many.

Perrie Briskin, the state’s health care financing and Medicaid director, shared that effective January 2027, states will be required to implement work requirements as a condition for Medicaid eligibility.

Maryland State Del. Matt Morgan, a Republican representing District 29A in St. Mary’s County, followed up on Briskin’s claim that the work requirements could cause 115,000 to lose coverage.

Morgan asked Briskin if recipients could lose coverage if they refuse to comply or encounter problems reenrolling every six months.

“Correct, correct. Those are the two things. Yes,” Briskin said.
