Following a step back on the defensive side of the ball in 2025, Tennessee is expected to part ways with defensive coordinator Tim Banks.

Volquest’s Austin Price reported the news via X on Monday.

Banks has held the position since Josh Heupel was hired in 2021, and he was a Broyles Award finalist for the nation’s top DC in 2024, leading a defense that allowed just 16.1 points per game en route to a CFP berth. However, the Vols’ defense regressed in 2025, giving up 27.75 points per contest.

The Vols dealt with injuries and spent the year without corners Rickey Gibson and All-American Jermod McCoy and never recovered despite a breakout from Colton Hood.
