ORLANDO — The Mets signed veteran right-hander Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor-league deal on Monday, per Will Sammon of The Athletic.
Edwards’ deal features a non-roster invitation to big-league camp next spring. He’ll have a chance to prove he’s worthy of a look in the Mets’ bullpen during Grapefruit League play. In all likelihood, if he sticks around, he’ll settle in as bullpen depth in Triple-A.
The 34-year-old right-hander has a 3.56 ERA over parts of 11 MLB seasons. He’s been struggling to stick in a big-league bullpen over these last few years, though, appearing in only five MLB games since the beginning of the 2024 season.
Edwards is best known for his time with the Cubs, winning a championship with Chicago in 2016. He was a top-five prospect within the Cubs organization — along
