WASHINGTON — D.C.'s leadership will look completely different after the next year.

Mayor Muriel Bowser will not be running for reelection in 2026, and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith is stepping down at the end of this month, Bowser announced Monday morning . DC Councilmember Anita Bonds will not be running for reelection, leaving her at-large seat open. Several other councilmembers are running for different seats in office; Ward 4 member Janeese Lewis George is running to replace Bowser, while At-Large member Robert White and Ward 2 member Brooke Pinto are vying to unseat Eleanor Holmes Norton as the District's non-voting delegate to Congress.

So by 2027, a new class will be running D.C.
