Jalen Hurts had thrown two interceptions all season entering Week 14's "Monday Night Football" game. He threw four of them against the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 8.
The last one came inside the red zone in overtime, and it doomed the Philadelphia Eagles to a third straight loss.
The Chargers, meanwhile, moved to 9-4 with their fifth win in their last six game. Quarterback Justin Herbert gutted out his first game after getting surgery to repair his broken hand seven days prior. He finished the game with seven sacks taken and a completion rate below 50%, but Herbert also came away from Week 14's matchup leading all Los Angeles players with 66 rushing yards on 10 carries.
Philadelphia remains in the lead in the NFC East but is unable to put any extra distance between itself and the Dallas Cowboys in second place. Los Angeles, a second-place team itself, stays within two games of the AFC West-leading Denver Broncos.

Chargers vs. Eagles MNF takeaways
- Justin Herbert left it all out on the field: The Chargers' defense was the big story of the game with the five turnovers it forced, but Herbert deserves recognition for the performance that won't necessarily show up in the box score. His 12-of-26 (46.2%) passing performance with 139 passing yards, one touchdown, an interception, and a lost fumble does not tell the full story. Herbert was under constant pressure behind Los Angeles' banged-up offensive line and was playing seven days after undergoing surgery to stabilize a fractured hand. The quarterback ended up losing 33 yards on seven sacks taken. He also led the Chargers in rushing yards with 66 on 10 carries. He didn't exit the game despite taking multiple hits to his injured hand and blow after blow in the backfield. Herbert did just enough with one hand to get his team a win and keep Los Angeles in the AFC West race.
- Jalen Hurts played one of the worst games of his career: By passer rating, Hurts' 31.2 mark is his fourth-worst in a game in his six years as an NFL starter. By interceptions, the four that Hurts threw against the Chargers are the most he has ever thrown in a single game as a pro. By completion rate, Hurts' 52.5% mark is the eighth-worst in his career in games with more than five pass attempts. In the first half, Hurts became the first player in NFL history to turn the ball over twice on the same play. It is not hyperbole to say that the Eagles' quarterback -- with his five turnovers -- cost his team the win in Week 14. There were still moments that Hurts showed his great potential, most notably his clutch, 28-yard pass to DeVonta Smith on third-and-16 in overtime. But the overall performance was a real head-scratcher for the reigning Super Bowl MVP.
- The Eagles' defense looked like an elite unit again: Philadelphia's front seven ate up the Chargers' offensive line all night. Look no further than the unit's seven sacks for evidence of that. And in rookie running back Omarion Hampton's big return, the Eagles stuffed the Chargers' run game all night, which led to Herbert ending the game as Los Angeles' rushing leader. For as bad as Hurts' five turnovers were, the Eagles' defense nearly mitigated them with the two takeaways they had against Herbert -- plus running back Will Shipley forcing a fumble after Da'Shawn Hand intercepted Hurts. If the Eagles can go on a run in the playoffs, it will be thanks to their defense, which has kept the team in games all year despite struggles on offense.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw his fourth interception of the game, and the Chargers win in overtime.

Chargers take first OT lead
Los Angeles kicker Cameron Dicker nailed his fifth field goal of the night on the Chargers' first overtime possession. His 54-yarder was also his longest field goal of the night and gave his team a three-point lead to begin the extra period.
The Eagles take over possession with 6:24 left in overtime, needing at least three points to keep the game going. A Philadelphia touchdown would end the game. If the Eagles do not score on their possession, the Chargers will win.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers are knotted at 19 points apiece at the end of regulation and the game will be decided in overtime. The Eagles won the toss and elected to kick. The Chargers will have first possession.

The Chargers' kicker hit a 45-yard field goal to tie the game again. Justin Herbert led the Chargers 43 yards on 11 plays to get into field goal range, where Dicker was able to tie the game.
The game is tied, 19-19, with eight seconds left in the fourth quarter.

NFL overtime rules
In the regular season, NFL games tied after four quarters of regulation will enter a 10-minute overtime period. OT begins with a coin toss to determine who gets the ball first. Each team will have the opportunity to possess the ball, even if the team that gets the ball first scores a touchdown on the opening possession.
- There are no coach challenges; all reviews will be initiated by the replay official.
- Each team gets two timeouts.
- The point after try is not attempted if the game ends on a touchdown.
- If the score is still tied at the end of the overtime period, the result of the game will be recorded as a tie.
Eagles lead again on Jake Elliott's 44-yarder
Philadelphia's latest fourth-quarter drive hit a wall just outside of the red zone, forcing the Eagles to try a short field goal with 2:20 left in the game.
Elliott's 44-yard field goal went through the uprights, giving him a 4-for-5 mark on field goal attempts on "Monday Night Football" and handing the Eagles' defense a three-point lead to hold.

Chargers vs. Eagles score update: Cameron Dicker FG ties the game
The Chargers' kicker hit a 31-yard field goal to tie the game. It capped a short drive after Jalen Hurts registered his third interception when A.J. Brown failed to reel in a pass that was tipped into the air.
The game is tied, 16-16, with 7:26 left in the fourth quarter.

Barkley had been held to 65 yards on his first 14 carries through three quarters of action, but the Eagles' first play of the fourth quarter was a different story.
Barkley's long touchdown run gave the Eagles their first lead of the night. Philadelphia now holds a 16-13 lead nine seconds into the fourth quarter.

Chargers vs. Eagles score update: Jake Elliott's kick is good on fourth field goal try
Elliott pulled the Eagles back within four points of the Chargers with his third made field goal of the night, this time from 54 yards out. Elliott had ended the first half with a missed 48-yard field goal attempt but bounced back in Philadelphia's first possession of the second half.
Los Angeles still holds a 13-9 lead with 3:22 left in the third quarter.

Chargers vs. Eagles score update: Cameron Dicker pulls Chargers' lead back to seven
Los Angeles' fourth-year kicker hit a 34-yard chip shot to give the Chargers three more points and extend their lead. It capped a 16-play, 51-yard drive that ate up nine and a half minutes of the game clock.

Eagles QB depth chart: Who is the backup quarterback?
Tanner McKee, a sixth-round pick by the Eagles in 2023, is Philadelphia's backup quarterback behind Jalen Hurts. McKee won the backup role in training camp over Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the former Browns quarterback whom Cleveland traded for Kenny Pickett in the offseason.
Behind McKee is Sam Howell, whom the Eagles acquired via trade in late August. He is Philadelphia's emergency third quarterback in Week 14, so he can only enter the game if both Hurts and McKee are ruled out with injuries.
Chargers hold 10-6 lead over Eagles at halftime
The Week 14 edition of "Monday Night Football" has, so far, been one of the football games of all time.
Both teams have three turnovers each through 30 minutes of play, and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was responsible for two of his team's turnovers on a single play. He became the first player since at least 1978 to turn the ball over twice in one play. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert had an interception and a lost fumble of his own as well.
To end the first half, Eagles kicker Jake Elliott missed a 48-yard field goal attempt.
The Chargers lead, 10-6, and will get the ball to begin the second half.

Philadelphia got the ball down to the Chargers' 2-yard line, but a holding penalty overturned a touchdown and backed the Eagles up 10 yards. They were unable to find the end zone after, and Elliott booted a 30-yard field goal to get more points on the board.
Elliott's second kick of the night shrinks the Chargers' lead to 10-6 with less than a minute to play in the first half.

The Eagles' quarterback threw his second interception of the game on his team's second play after Dicker's field goal. Then Herbert fumbled on the Chargers' first play after the turnover.

Los Angeles' lead is back up to seven points after kicker Cameron Dicker nailed a 45-yard field goal with less than five minutes left in the first half.

Why did the Chargers leave San Diego?
The Chargers' first year as an NFL franchise was in 1960, and they called Los Angeles their home for one year before moving to San Diego.
Team owner Dean Spanos did not give an official reason to move back to L.A. when he announced the planned relocation in January 2017. In an official open letter the team posted on its website, Spanos wrote:
"After much deliberation, I have made the decision to relocate the Chargers to Los Angeles, beginning with the 2017 NFL season."
Who is Chargers number 30?
Running back Kimani Vidal wears number 30 for Los Angeles. He was a sixth-round pick by the Chargers last year and has started eight straight games for Los Angeles, including tonight.
Vidal's last seven starts were filling in for rookie Omarion Hampton, who had been out since Week 5 with an ankle injury before returning to action in Week 14.
Jalen Carter injury update
The Eagles' star defensive lineman underwent a procedure on both shoulders on Monday, Dec. 1 and was ruled out of "Monday Night Football" in Week 14 as he recovers from the surgery. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier in the week that Carter should be considered week-to-week, though it's unclear as of Dec. 8 if he'll miss more than one game.
Jake Elliott gets Philly on the board
The Eagles neared the red zone on their second offensive possession but stalled out at the Chargers' 23-yard line. Elliott knocked through a 41-yard field goal on fourth-and-8 to give his team its first points of the night.
Los Angeles will get the ball back with 3:22 left in the first quarter, leading 7-3.

Chargers vs. Eagles score update: Chargers score first on Hampton TD
Los Angeles drove 80 yards on six plays for the first points of the night. Hampton, the Chargers' rookie running back, caught a four-yard pass from quarterback Justin Herbert for the score.
Hampton is making his first appearance for Los Angeles since Week 5, when he sustained an ankle injury and landed on injured reserve. His receiving touchdown to open "Monday Night Football" was the first receiving score of his career.

Lane Johnson injury update
Johnson suffered a Lisfranc injury to his foot in the Eagles' Week 11 "Sunday Night Football" win over the Detroit Lions and has missed every game since. The Eagles ruled out Johnson for a third straight game on their final injury report of Week 14 on Saturday, Dec. 6. Philadelphia opted not to place Johnson on injured reserve with his Lisfranc injury, so he is permitted to return before needing to fulfill the requisite four-game absence that comes with a stint on IR.
