OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – An iconic, 150-year-old lighthouse sitting on the shores of Lake Michigan was damaged in the massive Thanksgiving storm system that recently slammed the state .
The red outer lighthouse on Grand Haven’s south pier, commonly known as the fog house, was damaged in the powerful storm that brought heavy lake-effect snow, strong winds and near-zero visibility on Wednesday, Nov. 26, leaving thousands without power going into Thanksgiving Day.
Two glass panels in the lantern room of the towering lighthouse were blown out by the extreme wind during the storm, the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy (GHLC) stated in a news release.
