PHOENIX (KVOA) - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne said he is pleased with the state Board of Education for initiating a review of Arizona's statewide teaching standards to remove Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) language. The Board approved the decision to eliminate DEI from schools in Arizona on Monday morning.
This move is in response to federal mandates, emphasizing the importance of compliance to avoid losing significant federal funding, according to a press release.
“This is an excellent decision by the Board and I’m grateful for their understanding of how important this issue is," Horne said. He highlighted the risk of losing an estimated $866 million in federal education funds if DEI language remains in the programs.
