SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Sevierville Police Department has announced the city’s winter weather plan to keep the roads safe this winter.

“To complete this often arduous task, the City has a winter weather plan in place and ready for activation when needed,” said SPD on Facebook.

The city’s plan is as follows:

Pretreating roads with salt brine

The city will use multiple trucks that can hold over 500 gallons to spread salt brine before snow starts falling. This prevents the snow and ice from initially bonding to pavements.

Treatment of snow covered roads with rock salt and plowing

During and after snows, rock salt is put into spreaders and snowplows are outfitted to trucks. The city said they have 750 tons of rock salt ready for the winter. SPD asked for drivers to leave space be
