A New Sudbury man is looking at a penitentiary sentence of up to eight years for his attack that almost killed an elderly neighbour last year.
At his sentencing hearing at the Sudbury Courthouse, Grant Sharpe, 24, who had his head lowered in the prisoner’s box throughout the two-hour hearing, heard that the Crown wants an eight-year sentence for the assault.

Sharpe’s lawyer, Alex Toffoli, is seeking three to six years.
Justice Pierre Bradley has reserved his sentencing decision. A date to give it will be set in video remand court on Dec. 11.
Earlier this year, Sharpe, who was facing five charges, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and forcible entry.
