Vancouver police have been cleared of wrongdoing in the death of Winnipeg man Chris Amyotte in the Downtown Eastside more than three years ago.

Several witnesses reported seeing Amyotte, 42, naked and in distress in the 300-block of East Hastings Street on Aug. 22, 2022. After failing to obey orders by police to get on the ground, Ayotte was shot seven times with a beanbag gun. He went into cardiac arrest and died.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. said there were no grounds to believe police did anything wrong.
