ROCKFORD, Ill. (WREX) — Congressman Eric Sorensen paid a visit to the Rockford Rescue Mission Monday to learn more about their needs as the weather continues to cool off.

The Congressman served lunch to Rescue Mission residents Monday afternoon while looking to gain insight in how the organization is run and what resources they are in need of.

This comes as he looks towards creating potential legislation to help out the organization and its residents with a personal tie pushing him forward.

"Coming here to the Rockford Rescue Mission means something because my mom's brother, Tom, my uncle, dealt with addiction and he lived on the streets of Rockford, back in the days that I was the weatherman and needed the Rockford Rescue Mission. He was here," Sorensen said.
