Millions of homes across the country stand to pocket an additional £39 annually on their energy costs following proposals to restructure how the Warm Home Discount scheme is financed.
The government has opened a consultation proposing to transfer the expense from the standing charge component of bills to the unit rate that consumers are charged for their energy consumption. The shift would particularly advantage those with lower energy usage, including financially stretched households who find it difficult to afford adequate heating and lighting.
