A City of Kelowna project has received two top awards from engineering associations.
The rebuilding of a flood control system won both the Canadian Consulting Engineer Award of Excellence and the International Federation of Consulting Engineers’ Project of the Year Award (small to medium project)
The infrastructure is designed to funnel water from Mill Creek to Mission Creek during times of high water, reducing the chance of damaging flooding occurring in central and downtown Kelowna.
The old diversion structure was “extremely dangerous” to operate, city council heard Monday. The new one is much safer, and also has a significantly higher capacity.
