STORRS, Conn. (WFSB) - UConn students are expressing excitement about the hiring of Jason Candle as the new football coach, with many hoping his winning track record at Toledo will translate to success in Connecticut.

During finals week on campus, students said they’re researching their new coach and are optimistic about the program’s direction after Jim Mora’s departure.

“I think that’s really great for the school and everything. Bringing in this new coach shows we care about football and we’re not just only a basketball school. We’re trying to expand out of that,” said Luke Perfetti, a UConn freshman.
