BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The WAFB News Team won multiple Suncoast Emmy Awards at the annual ceremony in Florida this weekend. The awards are presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Four WAFB employees were among the winners: Chief Investigative Reporter Chris Nakamoto and Photojournalist Robert Hollins each won two Emmy Awards, while Anchor Tisha Powell and Photojournalist Derron Daquano each received one.
Nakamoto and Hollins won Emmys for “DWI Dismissed,” which examined a north Louisiana deputy arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The Ouachita Parish district attorney dismissed the case 55 hours later, saying he did not want to ruin the deputy’s career. The investigation raised questions about how allegations involving law enforcement are handle
