Dog lovers packed Buenos Aires’ Palermo Woods on Monday as more than 2,000 golden retrievers filled Parque Berlin in an effort to set a world record for the largest gathering of the breed.

The event was launched by influencer Fausto Duperré, known for videos with his dog Oli, who rallied followers on social media after recalling a similar meet-up he once attended in Barcelona.

The number to beat was 1,685, the mark held by a gathering in Canada.

Duperré said he began exploring how to certify such records days earlier and was surprised by the response in Buenos Aires.

During the afternoon, the organizer said that Buenos Aires had achieved a non-independently verified new world record for golden retriever attendance, with 2397 dogs counted.

To keep the massive meet-up orderly, organizers asked owners to bring leashes, identification tags, water and waste bags, and reinforced those rules as the crowds grew.

Attendees were also encouraged to donate pet food, adding a charitable aim to the festive gathering. Between photos, games and a chorus of barks, the “Golden Wave” turned Palermo into one of the most striking scenes of the holiday.
