Authorities last week recovered a body part believed to belong to one of the two pilots killed in last month's plane crash in Lake Pontchartrain, according to the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.
The remains were sent off for DNA testing, and the results were pending as of Monday afternoon, the coroner said. No other information was immediately available.
Flight instructor Taylor Dickey and private pilot David Michael Jahn , both 30 and residents of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, had departed from Gulfport for a training flight to New Orleans in a Cessna 172 on the evening of Nov. 24.
The New Orleans Lakefront Airport lost contact with the plane shortly after 6:20 p.m., when it was about four miles from the airport. The cause of the crash remains unknown.
