An inmate at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center died Sunday, marking the fifth death in the past three months at the facility that was not attributed to pre-existing health conditions.

The Louisiana Department of Connections confirmed the inmate was Justin Rice, 37, and said an autopsy had been ordered to determine the cause of his death.

Rice's death comes less than two weeks after 30-year-old inmate Detroit Draper died following a physical altercation in his cell at the St. Gabriel facility. In October , two inmates, ages 22 and 65, died of suspected overdoses at Elayn Hunt, while a 45-year-old inmate died of a suspected overdose in late September.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the earlier deaths and said it does not yet have information regarding the circumst
