LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Fayette County School Board approved a broad external audit in a 3-2 vote Monday.
The board of education approved a recommendation from the audit committee to hire Weaver and Tidwell accounting firm to conduct the audit.
The decision follows questions about the district’s finances and efforts from the district to improve accountability.

In November, State Auditor Allison Ball raised concerns about wasteful spending on duplicate audit work. Her office is also conducting a special examination of Fayette County Public Schools.
