The Arroyo Grande football team slowly walked to the north end of Doug Hitchen Stadium.

The scoreboard showed a 35-28 loss to Ventura High School in the CIF Regional Championship game on Friday night.

“Heck of a run. Heck of a season,” senior linebacker Derek Brockenborough said, high-fiving his teammates as he kept walking.

The Eagles might not be playing for a state title, but they made sure the loss to Ventura didn’t spoil their historic season.

“These kids accomplished so much,” coach Stephen Field said. “They were committed. They loved each other and it showed.”
