SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A Spokane Valley family was able to escape an early morning house fire over the weekend thanks to working smoke alarms.

According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, firefighters responded to the attic fire on East Heroy Avenue over the weekend.

Everyone inside the house was asleep when the fire started, but were able to make it out safely thanks in part to the newly installed, working smoke alarms.

SVFD says it serves as a reminder to take a moment to test smoke alarms in your home.
