ORLANDO, Fla. — The Pirates have already traded from their starting pitching depth, but general manager Ben Cherington didn’t rule out making further moves from the Pirates’ biggest strength.
On Thursday evening, Cherington and the Pirates executed a deal that swapped starting pitcher Johan Oviedo and two minor leaguers to the Red Sox for top-100 prospect Jhostynxon Garcia and a pitching prospect. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Cherington said the Pirates were “open” to further moves from the rotation.
