LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Housing for hundreds of people in Louisville could be at risk after drastic cuts to a federal program go into effect.

Staff at St. Vincent de Paul said on Monday they are scrambling to find ways to keep a program alive that helps people with disabilities have a home.

Steve Allen knows what it’s like to live in the streets. He said a disability forced him out of a job, but St. Vincent de Paul’s Permanent Supportive Housing Program gave him and the two grandchildren he cares for a second chance.

“It was great,” he recalled about the moment he found out he got the help. “I couldn’t believe it. You know, I waited so long for it to come and I didn’t think it would ever come.”
