OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - There is a new question you will have to answer during every traffic stop in Omaha; “Do you have a gun in your car?”

For the past two weeks, the Omaha Police Department has been adjusting its training for officers during these stops. It is related to the concealed handgun law the state passed in 2023, allowing permit-less carry, better known as LB 77 .

However, it also comes on the heels of a high profile traffic stop a few months ago.

Back in September, OPD ordered Bud Crawford and everyone in his car out at gunpoint, after an officer saw a firearm in the vehicle. As part of their new training, officers go through scenarios like a traffic stop and are being instructed to ask about guns in the car, every time.
