A 78-year-old man went missing after he left his Virginia home to take his car to the mechanic, but never showed up. A week later, he was found deceased.

On Monday, Dec. 8, a spokesperson for the Fairfax County Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that Quang Hang, who was last seen on Dec. 1, had been found dead.

In a statement on social media , police said that his body was found inside a submerged vehicle in the Occoquan River near the 10700 block of Old Colchester Road in Lorton. N
