A 99-year-old Wyandanch man was killed and another man was seriously injured in a violent crash at a busy Commack intersection, Suffolk County Police announced on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Joseph Dor, 99, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2002 Honda Odyssey he was riding in was struck by a westbound 2016 National Grid Freightliner truck at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Apple Lane at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, according to the release.

The Honda’s driver, Alexandre Paul, 67, also of Wyandanch, had been attempting to turn left onto Apple Lane when the crash occurred. He was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries, police said. The Freightliner driver, Dennis Worsdale, 22, of Lindenhurst, was not injured.

Photos shared by Neil Miller of The NY Extra show a white Honda minivan that appeared to be T-boned by a truck. Miller reports that the truck was pulling a trailer with a backhoe on it.

Police impounded the Honda for a safety check, while the Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Section inspected and released the National Grid truck at the scene.
