PHOENIX (KVOA) - Gov. Katie Hobbs has appointed five local leaders to the inaugural Willcox Active Management Area Groundwater Users Advisory Council. This move emphasizes her commitment to local control and giving rural Arizona a voice in water protection.

The council will guide the Arizona Department of Water Resources in developing a tailored management plan for the Willcox basin.

The appointees include Caleb Blaschke, City Manager of Willcox; Doug Dunlap, a third-generation farmer; Ed Curry, a prominent figure in chile seed development; Mark Spencer, an advocate for groundwater management; and Tedd Haas, a longtime farmer and water conservation pioneer.

The council members will serve six-year terms, offering advice to the ADWR on groundwater management programs and policies.
