Sydney Sweeney is eager to shut down years of speculation that she's altered her face.
"I have never gotten work done. I am so scared of needles," the 28-year-old said in a video for Allure magazine.
"But it's really effective once you get older," her "Housemaid" costar Amanda Seyfried chimed in. Though the 40-year-old encouraged Sweeney to consider undergoing treatments later in life, Seyfried confirmed, "You don't need it yet."
Sweeney then took the opportunity to chastise those who compare her looks over a nearly 15-year span.
"You guys, you cannot compare a photo of me when I was 12 to a photo of me at 26 with professional makeup and lighting. Of course I'm going to look different!" she said. "Social media is insane."
She pointed to an alleged imperfection as evidence that she hasn't undergone any enhancements, saying, "Also if I did, you guys, my face would be even."
After Seyfried failed to find any faults, Sweeney described that "one eyelid opens a little more than the other" after a childhood wakeboarding accident that required stitches.
A number of videos posted to social media over the years have speculated about the cosmetic work Sweeney allegedly underwent, including TikToker and internal medicine resident Dr. Nicole James. In 2023, James complimented Sweeney's "injector" for "really" knowing "what [they're] doing."
Sweeney joins a list of female celebrities, including Lindsay Lohan and Kate Beckinsale, who have come out swinging against widespread speculation about possible cosmetic alterations.
Meanwhile, Kris Jenner, Christina Applegate, Sofía Vergara and Kristin Davis are among those who have been candid about altering their appearances – an effort at transparency that experts have praised for offsetting unrealistic beauty standards that are especially pervasive on social media.
