GRUVER, Texas (KFDA) - The Gruver Greyhounds are one of two Texas Panhandle teams still competing for a high school football championship, earning their second straight trip to the state semifinals.
The Greyhounds fought through a tough regular season and dominated the playoffs, defeating Lockney, Wink, Ropes and Stratford on Friday to collect four gold balls for their trophy case.
This week brings a personal matchup as Gruver faces the Muenster Hornets for the second consecutive season in the state semifinals.
Seeking redemption
Last year, Gruver entered the state semifinal game undefeated, but Muenster ended the Hounds’ perfect season and advanced to win the Class 2A Division II state championship.
Gruver wants to rewrite that story this year.
