Des Moines City Council members cautiously selected an Omaha-based developer to transform a city-owned 91-year-old building on the bank of the Des Moines River into a residences with retail space and a bar.

White Lotus Group's proposal for the historic Argonne Armory Building, 602 Robert D. Ray Drive, includes 43 units and came recommended by city staff, who preferred its plans over a vision proposed by Des Moines-based Ntontan Real Estate in partnership with Hubbell Realty Co. But some council members expressed concern over the White Lotus Group reportedly defaulting on the terms of an agreement with Omaha to redevelop a property once home to the city's now-demolished Civic Auditorium, as reported by the Nebraska Examiner .
