TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - As the holiday season approaches, residents worldwide, including those in Arizona, are experiencing a surge in scams.

According to the FBI, nearly 15,000 people in Arizona fell victim to scams last year.

Of those, 6,600 were over the age of 60.

A spreadsheet of the data reveals many Arizonans were targeted by extortion scams, personal data breaches, non-delivery scams—where you pay for an item but never receive it—and more.

The FBI is reminding everyone to protect themselves and their families from fraud this holiday season.

The agency advises against sharing sensitive information with people met only online or over the phone.

They also caution against sending money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or any other assets.
