Belleville City Council approved a motion to bring information presented to council from Southeast Public Health to city staff for a report.
The motion was approved at council’s meeting on Monday.
This comes after the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Piotr Oglaza, and the Finance Manager for the health unit, John Wickson, gave an update regarding the 2026 health unit budget and municipal levies.
In September, the Board of Health had endorsed a phased approach of five years to achieve a harmonized funding ratio of 67.5 provincial funding/32.5 municipal levies by 2030.
The approved budget for 2026 includes $1.9 million in merger funding to maintain staffing levels, with municipal contributions set to rise 1.09%. For Belleville, it will be 1.10%.
