A federal magistrate judge on Monday rejected a bid by a former county clerk to be released from Colorado prison while she appeals her October 2024 conviction for charges related to allowing unauthorized access to voting machines in 2022.
Tina Peters, the former county clerk of Mesa County in western Colorado, filed a federal lawsuit asking that she be released on bond while her state appeal is considered. Attorneys for the state had argued that legal challenge should be thrown out.
The judge denied her bid for the prison release and said Peters, 70, did not make a case that he should get involved in overturning her state sentence.
