Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish on Monday appointed a new Precinct 2 Commissioner after he said the incumbent, Jason Corley, was automatically removed from office when he launched a campaign for Congress in the upcoming Republican primary.

Meanwhile, Corley filed a lawsuit late Monday challenging his expulsion, saying he announced his candidacy outside of the year-and-30-day window required by the Texas Constitution to automatically resign him.

Parrish's announcement came during Monday morning's regularly scheduled commissioners court meeting, and Corley was not at the dais.

Parrish said he met with Corley before the meeting and told him that emails and text messages he sent in November showed his intent to run for another office, which triggered a provision in the Texas Constitutio
