WORCESTER, Mass. —
A Worcester nurse is hospitalized in Costa Rica after suffering a severe fall while visiting the country for a fun girls' trip.
Kiara Diaz, 29, and two friends decided to hike to a site known as El Miro, a mansion overlooking the Pacific Ocean that was abandoned in the 1990s before its construction was complete.
"She stepped backwards and there was a drop that she didn't see. So she fell backward into that drop and fell three meters and landed on her back," said Diaz's brother, Gindember Diaz, who flew to Costa Rica to be at his sister's bedside. "She just wants to get back to the United States. That's the biggest thing."
Gindember Diaz says his sister is in the hospital with a broken collar bone and broken spine and temporarily can not move her legs.
