WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A Kansas native and legendary Track and Field coach was in Wichita promoting his new book, ‘Allegiance’.
Chuck Debus from Herington is a KU graduate who moved to Los Angeles to start a Track and Field club. After starting that club, he coached more than 170 athletes to the Olympics.
Debus has also worked in sports like boxing and football. He says he is especially proud of his work in bringing women’s athletes into the modern era, including Billie Jean King.
Debus said he decided to write a book while training with one of his former athletes.
“We were shot putting one day, and I used to tell her a lot of stories about my adventures with my previous athletes,” Debus said. “And she said, ‘Chuck, you got so many stories, why don’t you write a book?’ And it eventuall
