ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Mayor Jacques Roy addressed the redistricting of city council boundaries at a mayoral briefing in City Hall on Monday, December 8.

In April 2024, the council voted 4-to-3 to redistrict three council districts from the 2022 map , which expanded City Council District Four and shrunk Districts Two and Three in the process.

Last week, the council voted 4-to-3 to revert to the 2022 council districts map.

Mayor Roy addresses both maps

Mayor Roy spoke on both the 2022 and 2024 maps, their distinctive features and the controversies relative to whether either ordinance would cause certain violations.

Those potential violations include denying citizens the right to vote or enabling any impermissible violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Voting Rights Act,
