A man carrying a gun was stopped by security personnel before entering the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) public meeting venue in Puducherry on December 9.
The person was identified as David, a guard for Prabhu, the Sivagangai District Secretary of the party.
This was Vijay’s first public meeting since the Karur stampede that killed 41 people. The event was held at the Expo Ground in Puducherry under tight security cover.
Ahead of the meeting, the Puducherry Police issued a detailed advisory laying down strict safety and crowd control measures. Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) R Kalaivanan said attendance was strictly limited to 5,000 people, as requested by Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.
The police also prohibited residents of neighbouring Tamil Nadu from entering the venue
