MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Earlier this year, 15-year-old Braydn Bohn was targeted with sexual extortion online. Just hours later, he died by suicide.
On Monday, Gov. Tony Evers signed Braydn’s Law, named after Braydn, increasing the penalties for sexual extortion.
The legislation received significant bipartisan support.
“This is my fifth term and this is probably one of the fastest bills that we’ve gotten through,” state Rep. Pat Snyder, R-Weston, said.
Sextortion involves tricking or pressuring a minor into sending nude or sexual photos of themselves. The perpetrator then threatens the child that they’ll make the photos public unless they send money or more sexual content. Many offenders live overseas and primarily target teenage boys.
