WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Wichita Forward, a local non-profit, is proposing a 1% sales tax for Wichita to fund public safety, education and the arts, as well as a reduction in property taxes.
The proposal could go before Wichita voters this spring. Wichita Forward hosted a public informational session tonight, where many residents expressed they are not confident in the plan. Wichita Forward discussed their reasoning behind the plan.
“The hope is that we are building a sales tax initiative for the common good, meaning that we are working towards a number of different projects that will improve the lives of all Wichitans,” said Matt Burchett, a board member with Wichita Forward. He said he believes that the sales tax increase would help alleviate financial struggles that the city is facing.
