A suspicious death investigation is underway after an infant's body was found inside a portable restroom in Mission Bay on Monday afternoon, police said.

A worker who was conducting routine waste removal found the boy's body in a restroom at Dana Landing/Sunset Point and called 911 just before 1:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Shortly after SDPD, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and San Diego Lifeguards responded, paramedics pronounced the boy dead. Police say the identities of the boy and his parents are not yet known.

The suspicious circumstances were reported to the police department's Homicide Unit, which is conducting a pediatric death investigation.
