Indian stock markets opened lower on Tuesday, extending Monday’s decline as investors trimmed positions amid weak global cues, sustained foreign fund outflows, and pressure in mid- and small-cap stocks. The selling was broad-based, with losses seen across major sectors including banking, metal, and IT.
The Sensex fell over 700 points to trade below 84,400, while the Nifty tumbled below 25,800, led by losses in banking, metal, and IT stocks.
The benchmark Nifty 50 index opened at 25,867.10, down 93.45 points or 0.36 per cent, while the BSE Sensex began the day at 84,742.87, declining 359.82 points or 0.42 per cent.
