T he Supreme Court is hearing the bail pleas of activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and others in the UAPA case related to the alleged conspiracy behind the 2020 Delhi riots.

In the previous hearing , the Supreme Court had directed the seven accused activists to furnish their permanent addresses. No reasons were assigned for seeking the addresses. The court on December 3 could not hear arguments on behalf of the accused owing to the paucity of time. The judges expressed concern over the extended proceedings, observing that arguments on bail petitions ought to be concluded with greater promptness.
